Post-doctoral Fellow, International Rice Research Institute Bangladesh
Dr. Sharif Ahmed is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Agrifood Systems at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) with over 13 years of expertise in integrated crop and resource management, climate-adaptive research, weed ecology, and rice mechanization. He has authored 90+ peer-reviewed publications, books, and technical reports and reviewed 350+ journal articles. His work spans agronomic biofortification, value chains, and sustainable intensification of rice-based cropping systems. Before IRRI, he served as a Senior Specialist-Agronomy Extension and Specialist-Agricultural Research and Development at IRRI Bangladesh. He has led projects on climate-smart rice production, mechanization, and integrated weed management. His doctoral research at Bangladesh Agricultural University and IRRI focused on dry-seeded rice and weed management. He has extensive experience collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and farmer organizations to implement and scale sustainable agricultural technologies in South Asia.

š Research Focus
Dr. Ahmedās research focuses on climate-adaptive rice production, integrated crop and resource management, sustainable intensification, and weed ecology. He works on developing agronomic technologies for increasing rice productivity, biofortification, and value chains for high-value rice. His expertise includes dry-seeded rice (DSR), mechanization, intercropping, and integrated weed management (IWM). He also explores the impact of climate change on cropping systems and strategies for resilience. His research integrates agronomy with human nutrition and economic sustainability to improve food security.
