ONERA – The French Aerospace Lab | France

Dr. Olivier Voreux is a highly skilled research engineer and Ph.D. in mechanics of materials, currently working at ONERA, the French Aerospace Lab in Châtillon, where he specializes in mechanics and material modeling. His work focuses on the lifetime assessment of thermal barrier coating systems for aeronautical airblades and the mechanical behavior and damage modeling of solid propellants. He completed his doctoral research on high-temperature fatigue crack growth in nickel-based superalloys, developing and calibrating time-incremental fatigue damage models coupled with constitutive equations for predicting high-temperature fatigue and creep-fatigue cracking. His expertise includes non-local modeling for cyclic creep-fatigue-ductile damage, analysis of complex crack growth tests, cyclic and monotonic material behavior, and finite element structural calculations with adaptive remeshing. Olivier gained additional experience during research internships at ArianeGroup, where he analyzed the thermo-mechanical fatigue behavior of rocket engine components, and in mechanical design, developing robotic wheelchair structures. He holds a Ph.D. in mechanics of materials and engineering from École Normale Supérieure Paris-Saclay, a master’s degree in mechanics and physics with a specialization in advanced materials from UTTroyes, and an engineering degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on numerical simulation. Olivier also completed an international exchange program in Finland at Aalto University, further broadening his expertise. He is proficient in a wide range of computational tools and programming languages, including Z-set, Abaqus, SAMCEF, Catia, Creo, Matlab, Mathematica, Python, and C/C++, as well as optimization software such as modeFrontier and Z-SimOpt. Beyond his professional work, Olivier is an avid sports enthusiast, participating in volleyball, running, trail races, cycling, and yoga. He is a passionate musician, playing the trumpet and performing in brass orchestras, and has a long-standing involvement in scouting, including leading humanitarian projects. Olivier is fluent in French, has advanced English skills, and basic German proficiency, combining technical expertise with creativity and a global outlook.
