🎓 Education

Dr. Alebel holds a PhD in Media and Communication from Bahir Dar University, completed in March 2024. He also obtained his Master’s degree in Media & Communication from Bahir Dar University in 2017, and a Bachelor’s degree in English (major) and Amharic (minor) from Wollo University in 2011. Additionally, he has completed the Higher Diploma Program (HDP) in effective teaching methodologies at Dilla University in 2017. His education is complemented by numerous trainings, including Fact Checking and statistical software such as STATA, R, and SPSS, further bolstering his research and communication skills.

💼 Experience

Dr. Alebel has held a variety of roles, beginning as an English teacher (2007-2012) in Lasta Woreda, and later advancing to high school supervisor (2012-2014) and Vice Head of the Education Office (2014-2015). He became a lecturer and researcher at Dilla University (2016-2019), where he also led the Department of Journalism and Communication. Since 2019, he has worked as a qualitative data collector for research consultancy firms like DAB-DRT. His research contributions cover fields such as health communication, leadership participation, and community land management, reflecting his broad interdisciplinary expertise.

Dr. Alebel has received recognition for his research and professional accomplishments, including participating in prestigious conferences such as the 3rd African Graduate Students Conference (AGSC III-BDU 2023). He has been actively involved as a reviewer for the Ethiopian Journal of Language Culture and Communication. His commitment to public service is also evident through his role as a master trainer for the National Election Board of Ethiopia during the 6th general elections (2021), and his contribution to journalism training programs for South Radio and Television Agency reporters in 2017.

Dr. Alebel’s research interests span across various fields including media and health communication, crisis communication, and intercultural communication. He has worked on impactful projects such as CARE Ethiopia’s TESFA+ project, focusing on economic and sexual reproductive health outcomes for adolescent girls. His qualitative research efforts include gender analysis in the WASH sector, and studies on violence against women during election cycles. He is skilled in qualitative data collection, transcription, and reporting, contributing to publications in reputed journals indexed by Scopus, and collaborating with organizations like Mercy Corps and Oxfam.
